Since the release of the Galaxy S10, all the focus, unsurprisingly, has been on how it looks on the outside and what it packs on the inside. It is therefore easy to forget other notable improvements, like plastic-free packaging, that it brings to the table. In a new blog post, Samsung is reminding its users about the steps it has taken to make the Galaxy S10 packaging environment-friendly.
Samsung says it has opted for eco-friendly materials instead of plastics and vinyl for the Galaxy S10’s packaging. It also redesigned the box and its interiors to use as fewer resources as possible. Packaging for previous devices contained a box-covering sleeve, a holder tray and a bottom box, whereas the new packaging includes just the bottom box.
Samsung’s first plastic-free packaging design
The Galaxy S10’s box and manual use recycled paper and are printed with soy ink. The included charger’s matte finish is also an outcome of this eco-friendly approach, as a glossy finish apparently requires a plastic protective film. As a result of all this and more, the Galaxy S10’s packaging is plastic-free and environmentally sustainable. And while the company hasn’t mentioned it, it is using similar environment-friendly packaging for devices in the Galaxy M and 2019 Galaxy A lineup as well.
“From the Galaxy S10 line’s design stage, we were deeply committed to developing eco-friendly packaging materials. We will continue to support international efforts to make our planet more sustainable by utilizing eco-friendly materials in more products,” Ilseob Baek, Vice President of Reliability Group, Mobile Communications, Samsung Electronics.
