A couple of days after publishing details about the April 2019 security patch, Samsung has kickstarted the rollout of the latest monthly update starting with the Galaxy Note 8. It appears the update is out since yesterday in Netherlands, Germany, Russia, Italy, and a few other regions. Interestingly, the carrier variants of the Note 8 in the US have started receiving the Android Pie update with March security patch in the last week or so.
The update bumps the software version, which varies by region, to N950FXXS5DSC5 in the Netherlands. Other than security fixes, the release doesn’t seem to bring any other notable changes to the Note 8. As detailed in the security bulletin, the April 2019 Security Maintenance Release (SMR) fixes five critical and dozens of high-risk Android OS vulnerabilities. It also patches fifteen Samsung Vulnerabilities and Exposures (SVE) items of varying severities.
To check if the update is available to your device, open the Settings app, go to Software Update, and tap on Download and install. It is possible that all devices even in the regions where the update is out may not receive the update at once. If you want to install the update right away, you can download the latest Galaxy Note 8 firmware from our database and manually install it.
