Samsung is working on an upgraded version of its ISOCELL Bright HM1 sensor, at least according to a fresh rumor that also claims the same sensor will first be employed by an upcoming Xiaomi smartphone. This upgraded sensor is said to be codenamed ISOCELL Bright HM2 and have a resolution of 108MP.
The high megapixel count shouldn’t be the only characteristic shared by the existing Bright HM1 and the rumored Bright HM2. It’s safe to assume that the HM2 will also use Samsung’s Nonacell technology, combining nine 0.8-micrometer neighboring pixels to create larger 2.4-micrometer pixels for better light absorption.
The Galaxy Note 20 series to skip the rumored ISOCELL Bright HM2
Much like the ISOCELL Bright HM1’s first commercial appearance leveraged on a Xiaomi smartphone, the redesigned sensor is also said to be debuting later this year on a future flagship from the Chinese OEM.
In other words, the so-called ISOCELL Bright HM2 might not be used by Samsung for the Galaxy Note 20 lineup. The Galaxy Note 20+ (or Note 20 Ultra) is expected to have an ISOCELL Bright HM1 sensor just like the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra has, and combine the 108MP unit with the ISOCELL Slim 3M5 and ISOCELL Fast 2L3 sensors.
Earlier this year, a different rumor claimed that Samsung is working on an even more ambitious 150MP Nonacell sensor for Q4 2020. Similarly, this mysterious CIS is rumored to debut on flagships from Chinese OEM including Oppo, Vivo, and Xiaomi.
