Reminder: Your Galaxy S10 series phone will get the Android 12 update

While getting a new phone can be fun, not everyone likes upgrading their phone every year or two. For those who hold on to their phones for longer, Samsung announced last year that it would be providing all of its flagships and some mid-range phones launched in 2019 and later three major OS updates, changing its long-standing policy of only providing two Android version upgrades to all of its devices.

The Galaxy S10e, Galaxy S10, and Galaxy S10+ received the Android 11 update in early January, and owners of these devices have been wondering whether this will be the last major update or if they will be getting Android 12 later this year/early next year. Well, we wanted to remind you that yes, the Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ are eligible for the Android 12 update and Samsung’s new software update guarantee.

That means if the latest software is important to you, you don’t need to upgrade to any of the new Galaxy S21 smartphones, even if there are plenty of other reasons to do so (and also a few not to). Your Galaxy S10e/S10/S10+ are not yet outdated and will live to see another big Android and One UI update, followed by at least a year of monthly security updates.

Naturally, since the Galaxy S10 series phones will be more than two years old by the time Android 12 rolls around, Samsung may take longer to release the update for them and prioritize newer flagships. Furthermore, you will not get all the new features that Samsung will include in the next major One UI release, but let’s face it: The list of new features is getting shorter and shorter every year and it’s mostly the changes in the core Android OS that matter, all of which are likely to be included.
