While the Galaxy S21 series has plenty to offer to anyone in the market for a new flagship phone, Samsung has also stripped away a couple of features that everyone had been taking for granted with Galaxy flagships in the last half decade. The Galaxy S21, S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra don’t support MST payments through Samsung Pay in many markets, you get no charger or earphones in the box, and none of these phones come with a microSD slot.
A 3.5 mm headphone jack is missing as well, but since that has been the case for all Galaxy flagships since late 2019, it probably isn’t that big of a deal for most fans compared to the fact that there’s no way to pop in a microSD card into any of the Galaxy S21-series phones to expand storage on the cheap. And given Samsung’s ongoing feature removal streak, there’s a good chance the microSD slot will not be coming back with future Galaxy flagships and will only be seen on the company’s budget and mid-range devices.
When a brand — Samsung, in this case — suddenly stops offering features its customers have been accustomed to for years, it risks losing some of those customers to the competition. Not necessarily because the competition is providing those features, but because their removal makes that brand’s product less special and unique. That’s certainly what many of our readers think about the Galaxy S21 lineup, and here’s what we want to know in our latest poll: Will you keep buying Galaxy flagships if they don’t have a microSD slot?
