Samsung is seemingly developing another Galaxy S20 FE variant. Clues of its existence have been found at the Wi-Fi Alliance where a new Galaxy phone carrying model number SM-G780G was approved last week. This is the first time for the SM-G780G model number to show up online, but what’s even more interesting is the fact that the device runs Android 11.
As many of you are aware, the Galaxy S20 FE and Galaxy S20 FE 5G are identified by model numbers SM-G780F and SM-G781B, respectively. Therefore, the SM-G780G model number should correspond to an LTE variant and it’s possibly meant for a few select markets.
The new variant probably won’t have too many differences compared to the ongoing models, given their similar model numbers, but it should ship with the latest version of Android out of the box.
Of course, existing Galaxy S20 FE owners can already download and install the Android 11-based One UI 3.1 firmware update, assuming they haven’t done so a couple of weeks ago when the update was resumed after it’s been pulled due to unforeseen issues.
Single and Dual-SIM variants are present
The mysterious new Galaxy S20 FE variants has gained not one, but a total of three approvals from the Wi-Fi Alliance for model numbers: SM-G780G, SM-G780G/DS, and SM-G780G/DSM. They confirm that the variant will be available with single and dual-SIM capabilities.
The Wi-Fi Alliance hasn’t revealed any other hardware details, so time will tell if and when this variant will hit the shelves, or if it will differ in any other ways compared to the original Galaxy S20 FE.
In the meantime, Samsung is reportedly developing a direct sequel called the Galaxy S21 FE which will run Android 11 out of the box.
