Samsung’s current generation high-end tablet, the Galaxy Tab S2, was announced back in July 2015. Going by the company’s annual update cycle, the South Korean tech giant is expected to announce the tablet’s successor somewhere around July this year. New information suggests that Samsung has secretly released an updated Galaxy Tab S2 with improved performance and new software.
Refreshed variants of the Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 and Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 are already on sale in Germany through Cyberport.de with a starting price of €449. The Galaxy Tab S2 now comes with a 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 652 processor, which offers better CPU performance than the original Galaxy Tab S2 with an Exynos 5433 chipset. There is, however, a slight decrease in GPU performance.
The updated version also comes with Android 6.0.1 out of the box. The external design and other specifications remain the same. It still comes with a Super AMOLED display with a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels, an 8-megapixel primary camera with support for QHD video recording, a 2.1-megapixel secondary camera, 3GB RAM, 32GB internal storage, a microSD card slot, dual-band gigabit Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.1, and a fingerprint sensor.
The Wi-Fi-only variant of the new Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 (SM-T813N) is currently priced at €449, while the LTE variant (SM-T819N) is priced at €549. The new Galaxy Tab S2 8.0 is currently available only in an LTE variant (SM-T719N), and it is priced at €479. We can expect Samsung to release the refreshed variant of the Galaxy Tab S2 in other European markets soon.
