Not to be left behind by the Galaxy S9 series whose security was recently improved, the Galaxy Note 9 is now also receiving a new update that includes the May 2020 security patch. The firmware version is identified as N960FXXS5DTE2 and the package is rolling out in Germany as we speak, but additional markets will surely follow soon.
Galaxy Note 9 owners in Germany should be getting the update notification for the May 2020 security patch at any moment. They can also go to Settings, Software update, and tap Download and install to try to trigger the update process manually. As always, we offer an alternative method of acquiring firmware updates for your Galaxy device. You can visit our firmware archive, download the latest update from there, and install it on the smartphone using a Windows computer.
Building up to the highly-anticipated One UI 2.1 update
As Samsung continues to release regular updates containing the latest security patches for the Galaxy Note 9, the company is also testing One UI 2.1 for the S Pen device and the Galaxy S9 series.
If you’re a Galaxy Note 9 owner, you might be able to enjoy One UI 2.1 on your device as early as June, assuming that the testing phase will be successful. Until then, your Galaxy Note 9 should continue to receive smaller updates containing monthly security patches. They may not be as exciting, but they are very useful and highly recommended.
